But, behind the razzle-dazzle lies a deeper question—one that has sharply divided chefs, food critics, and excited diners:

“AI has no feelings, no memories. It cannot bring that energy into the food,” Orfali insists.
So this sounds reasonable. AI might imitate the technique and be creative in some respects, but it can never taste. It cannot want comfort food on an emotionally taxing weekend. It cannot recall the inviting aroma emanating from a grandmother’s kitchen or the sweetness of a childhood celebration. What the AI lacks is nostalgia and emotional attachment: It has no preferences with flavor. Humanity tastes with biology; humanity cooks through life history.

The answer stands a probable No. This is because human chefs are equally unable to achieve consensus. Taste is intensely personal and is shaped by genetic predisposition, upbringing, cultural exposure, and individual sensory sensitivity. One diner may find ecstasy in what, for another, is an ordinary or even bad meal. Hence, AI can analyze extensive datasets and update recipes according to suggestions. Yet, it remains dependent on external expertise to judge anything delicious or not.
Then again, maybe it’s a place where artificial intelligence would shine while humans would naturally wilt: the custom-built meal. If an algorithm could get into diners’ heads and calculate salt tolerance or texture sensitivity, it might tailor-make a dish solely for that individual. In theory, AI can end up cooking for your biology as much as for your palate.
A question arises, though: would a soul exist for such a meal? Would it have any meaning?
